In the last 10 years, Costa Rica has become a must-see destination for people looking for adventure, nature, and good weather.

Costa Rica has become a trendy destination as witnessed by the 1,600,000 tourists who visited in 2005.

Because of its enormous wealth of flora and fauna and the population’s environmental awareness, 25% of the nation has been set aside as protected areas.

Climate

The climate in Costa Rica is pleasant all year round and is warmer on the coasts.

The temperatures in the mountainous areas are not cold, especially during the day time, giving a sensation of "eternal spring." The average annual temperature is around 31.7° C on the coast and 16.7° C in the interior. The rainy (or “green") season runs from May to November and there is hardly any rain from December to April

After the abolition of the army in 1948, Costa Rica became the most stable democracy in Latin America.  This brought about a redistribution of resources for education and health, giving this small Latin American country health and literacy rates that are comparable to developed countries.

So, Welcome! We Costa Ricans (ticos in the local vernacular) have a treasure trove in our country that we would like to share with everyone. No matter what you are looking for: health treatment, adventure, relaxation, beaches, mountains, rivers, volcanoes, remembering or forgetting, you will find it here. Give yourself and us both a chance to share the wealth that nature caused to overflow on this tropical land full of contrasts and biological diversity that we proudly and responsibly are preserving. Currently, more than 28% of our land is protected as national parks, biological reserves, or wildlife refuges.

Peace is another essential characteristic of Costa Rica and we take care of it and preserve it by exercising a true democracy. We ticos all feel proud of belonging to a country without an army, making it possible to allocate more resources to health, recreation, and education for our people. It is precisely because of our people – polite, friendly, and peace loving – and because of human solidarity, respect for human rights and the environment that are already part of the Costa Rican BEING that Costa Rica has become a unique development model. The pinnacle of technology meets the best qualified work force in a stable and safe environment while you will find the wonders of nature almost intact.
